Chertsey Town FC: White with blue trim shirt, Blue shorts, white socks
Beaconsfield SYCOB - Red / white quarters shirt, black shorts, red socks
Combined Counties League - Premier Division Match
This was the most evenly balanced contest of Chertsey’s three warm up matches and the drawn result was probably the most suitable results. The home side tended to have the edge against the Southern League opposition who could have imposed themselves had they been more decisive in front of goal, especially in the second half when two clear cut chances were wasted.
Chertsey twice edged ahead, only to see their slender lead pegged back. It began with Oliver Treacher wrong footing the visitors goalkeeper in the 23rd minute then, on the half hour, a mistimed challenge set up Dean Clarke to fire in from the penalty spot.
Defender Jack Francis clipped in a near post corner just two minutes after the resumption of the second half. John Pomroy almost increased the lead midway through the period but his flick at goal was turned aside before Nick Turner, for Beaconsfield set up a model finish, two minutes from time, by converting a corner kick on the far side that had eluded the central defence.
Only three of last year’s squad (Matt Holley, Gavin Bamford and John Pomroy) began this game illustrating the breath of interest from new players although most of last year’s side is likely to sign in the next few days.
Oliver Treacher 23, Jack Francis 47
Dean Clarke 30, Nick Turner 88
