Chertsey Town FC - Statement - David Rayner 27/02/2021
Dave Rayner has just announced he will be stepping down from his role as Director of Football and Treasurer with immediate effect. Dave has been involved with Chertsey Town over many years, as chairman of the club in the 90's through to his recent term in office where he has been an influential and integral part of the team which has brought success back to Alwyns Lane.
With his 'trade mark' energy and forthright approach he has been instrumental in Chertsey gaining promotion in the league and spectacularly achieving one of his dreams, winning silverware at Wembley with the Buildbase FA Vase. Dave went out of his way to make sure the fan base was expanded and the whole town was behind the fantastic cup run.
When Dave came back to the club it was on the understanding that his tenure would be for a limited period, and now is the right time to leave the running of the club in the very capable hands of chairman Mark Turner who is supported by Secretary Chris Gay and the CTFC committee. He is looking forward to continuing his support of the curfews from the stands.
Chairman Mark Turner praised Dave’s energy and the influence he has had on the regeneration of both the team and ground facilities.
He stated, “Dave’s involvement will be greatly missed. He was the catalyst that brought me back to the club where I had played many years before. We worked well as a team and had a shared vision of where the club was and is going. That vision and direction will continue with the same energy and passion that Dave brought to the club.”
“The Rayner legacy has left Chertsey Town in a good place. His planned departure allows for new energy and ideas to springboard the club into the next chapter. His achievements and contribution to the club will not be forgotten, he has helped to provide a stable base from which future success is sure to follow.”
